RER Chapter 11 part 2

When Chu Feng returned home, it was already time  to eat. Seeing him enter through the door Song Xin walked towards him and smiled, “How come you were so late coming home?”

“I had something to do before coming and it took a little longer than I expected.” Chu Feng told her with a smile.

Song Xin looked deeply at Chu Feng whom she hadn’t seen for a while. “You look very happy.”

Chu Feng just smiled and said, “I’ll go upstairs and change clothes.”

Song Xin stood and smiled at her son, “Go.” When he turned around she saw a bag hanging from his shoulder that she hadn’t noticed before. “What’s in that?”

“Books and homework.” Chu Feng carelessly tossed over his shoulder and left behind a bewildered Song Xin. She couldn’t believe that Chu Feng was really carrying his books and homework. Actually, she was more likely to believe him if he told her he was carrying love letters or a gaming device.

Chu Feng didn’t explain much and just just went upstairs to change his clothes.

Entering his room Chu Feng finally cemented the fact that he had been sent back in time. This familiar and yet unfamiliar room gave him an uncontrollable  feeling of nostalgia. After he had gone abroad to study his family moved to a new house. Even though this place was not sold but it was not his home anymore, just an empty house. Afterwards he bought his own house and forgot he this place he had lived in for so long. Even though he often went to his parents’ home, the room prepared for him was very different than this one.

Fortunately, he had not forgotten the address to this place, Chu Feng thought humorously, if he went to the place his parents bought later it might have been very embarrassing to find someone else living there.

After freshening up, he changed his clothes and called Rong Yun to tell him he was home after which he and Rong Yun talked for a few more minutes before his mother called him downstairs to eat.

Today there was only him and Song Xin at the dinner table. It was usual for his busy father to not show up for dinner and he didn’t ask about him but not seeing Chu Rou made him a little puzzled.

“Where’s Chu Rou?” He asked.

Song Xin sat next to him on the dinner table and passed him a bowl of soup saying “She said she would eat outside with her friends before coming home tonight. It seems that her classmate had coupons for a restaurant and today is the last day it can be used.”

Chu Feng didn’t ask anymore and continued to eat. Song Xin was not good at housework or cooking so they always had chefs for the cooking and part time cleaners for the housework so Song Xin was worry free.

Drinking the soup Chu Feng asked his mother “Is the filming going well?” . His mother got back home last Sunday. If it was the usual he would have definitely come  back home to accompany his mother to eat but since he had to take Rong Yun to the hospital he hadn’t come back due to which his mother sent him dinner through Chu Rou.

Song Xin was an international actress and needed to go abroad many times each year for filming for long periods of time, sometimes more than half a year. Chu Feng’s father is very supportive of his wife’s profession. Probably because Song Xin felt very guilty about not giving enough time to her children that she had very low requirements for her children in their studies and such and only wants them to grow up happily. So even if Chu Feng was not particularly serious about his studies, she never said anything. Her biggest regret was that she could never accompany her children to parent teacher meetings since she was followed by reporters wherever she went and would probably cause a commotion in school if she went so she could only talk to the teachers of her children in private through her phone.

“It’s not too bad. The only troublesome thing is that the weather is very dry so we have to moisturise several times a day.” Song Xin smiled. As an actor she had to film in various environments and had to overcome the troubles that came with those environments. Although it is a bit hard but she had learned to cope with it to act in a satisfactory manner in those environments.

In Chu Feng’s impression his mother had always looked perfect. Even now he couldn’t find a single mark on her face. The only sign of her working hard was that she seemed much thinner than before.

He picked some eggplant which his mother loved to eat and put it in her plate. “You should eat more while you’re at home.”

Song Xin looked at him in pleasant surprise since it had been quite sometime since he had added food to her plate.

Chu Feng had gotten used to taking care of Rong Yun in school so he habitually picked some vegetables and side dishes to add to his mother’s plate. He didn’t know the joy in her heart but looking at the happiness on her face, he thought that his mother was very easy to please. Since Childhood he mostly saw his mother through a TV screen which caused him to have a sense of distance from his mother despite their good relationship. In fact, this distance is not much so he didn’t understand it or feel it during his teenage years but now after years of experience he can feel its presence and see things from a different perspective.

Song Xin hurried to eat the food he had added to her plate and also urged his to eat more.

“The things in school must not taste as good as the things made at home. You should also eat more.” Chu Feng only agreed and ate quietly.

Song Xin wanted to know more about her son so she kept asking him questions.

“How is school going?” She asked him trying to be casual. Chu Feng smiled at her question.

“Very Good. The teacher changed my seat next to a student who studies very well and helps me a lot during my studies.” Chu Feng felt he needed to make an impression of Rong Yun on his parents early on so that things could go smoother in the future.

“Oh? Then you have to be kind to your partner.” Song Xin had never heard Chu Feng mention his deskmates. Seemed like he had never been very satisfied with his previous deskmates.

“I know.” Chu Feng nodded his head and kept eating. “Oh yeah, I also want to talk to you about something.”

“What’s the matter?”  Song Xin asked him eagerly.

“I want to find a tutor to help me with reviewing all my subjects.” Chu Feng told her calmly. He had already known that if he didn’t seek foreign help for his studies he would never achieve the goal he had set for himself which was to catch up with Rong Yun.

“Huh?” Song Xin wasn’t sure but it had sounded like her son had asked her to find him a tutor for his studies.

Chu Feng patiently repeated his words. Song Xin looked at him anxiously and asked,” Did you have any trouble recently? Why do you want to find a tutor? Is the school teacher finding faults with you for something?”

Chu Feng smiled at her concerns and hurriedly denied her. “No, it’s nothing like that. My deskmate just helped me find a new method of learning that I think is quiet suitable for me. I met my cousin last week and he also mentioned to me that this is the time I have to put in more effort into my studies. I can’t keep on fooling around anymore. At least I don’t want to bring shame to you and dad. Also I would like if I could get in the same university as my desk mate.”’

Song Xin was still not reassured by his words. “You know that I don’t need you to bring honor to me by doing these things. I am satisfied as long as you are happy and healthy.”

“I know.” Chu Feng smiled at his mother’s love and affection. “But I want to do this for myself. At the very least won’t you be more reassured about my future if my studies can be better?”

Song xin carefully observed Chu Feng’s expression and finally determined that he wasn’t being forced to do this nor was he reluctant to do it so she smiled and accepted it as a part of him growing up.

“You’ve grown up and now I don’t need to worry about you anymore. About the tutoring you can rest assured that I will find a good tutor for you and let you know.”

“En, then I’ll just meet with the tutor outside. I’ll probably come home less and stay at school on the weekends to study since the environment in school is better for learning.”He said this but in fact had other plans for the time being.

“Okay, do as you like.” Song Xin agreed comfortably.

After dinner Chu Feng chatted with Song Xin sometime before going to his room to study. As a parent Song Xin would never stop her children from studying.

“Go I’ll send some fruit for you to eat in a while.”

“Okay.” Chu Feng agreed.

“Oh yes, invite your desk mate for dinner sometime when he had time. He has been good to you and you should repay his kindness.” Song Xin reminded him.

“En, I’ll ask him over sometime later. Right now is probably not a good time. Let’s talk about it again before my winter holidays.” Chu Feng thought a bit before speaking and Song Xin was pleased with his answer.
